Artist statement:
Symmetry: the quality of being made up of exactly similar parts facing each other or around an axis.
One of the most beautiful elements about nature, is the strong design elements towards symmetry and repetitive patterning. Symmetry is evident in living and non-living structures.
Symmetry is common in art & nature, a pair of synchronized divers, the ballet dancers in swan lake, the wing patterns on a butterfly. The vaulted ceiling of a cathedral.
Most objects in the real world are symmetrical. The radial symmetry of starfish or flower petals, the symmetrical efficiency of a hexagonal honeycomb, or the uniquely symmetrical crystal patterns of a snowflake.
These are some of the things that most people find visually very pleasing. The simple explanation for our attraction to symmetry is that it’s familiar. Symmetrical objects, & images play by the rules that our brains are programmed to recognize easily
